It seems like by leaving them in they will absorb the angle … WebMar 22, 2009 · To update, I did install 2* shims to start off with the insulator pads and I took a measurement and there wasn't any change in the pinion angle. I then removed the insulator pads and sure enough I got my difference. So to answer my own question, the pads did have an effect on the shims. I just removed all four and going to run without them.
