If you see a lot of that black **** in there, it got past that diaphram somehow, usually meaning the diaphram has a hole in it. Black **** on the engine side of the diaphram is normal. The tiny rod going to the cable above the green mark also had buildup on it, enough where it took more force to move the valves in and out. Pic of it is it cleaned. Other pic is dirty valves. I’ve never heard of using loctite on the nut, but I don’t use it. As far as applying oil, the VES vales get plenty of oil.
